Young people are treasures

I could not help crying with joy this morning when I watched a video “Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Hong Kong (MYO) Flash Mob”, shot in 25 Jan 2014 and posted by courtesy of Eugene Ho.

I guess, in these few months, Hong Kong people are so depressed with what have happened in the City so far that immediately after watching, at least to me, I felt totally cleansed and revitalized by the video. Seeing these young, well brought up, educated talents perform, people in the video watching the flash mob all wore big smiles on their faces to tell the whole World how lovely humans can be. I was let to feel that there are a lot of hopes in these young people. We could surely rest Hong Kong’s future in their good hands.

Many thanks to the organizer of the flash mob to have shown to the World in such a subtle way, full of tranquility, that the spirit of Hong Kong (Under the Lion Rock) will prevail forever. Hong Kong as a city, is indeed very unique. Since 1989, 1997, SARS, and the recent years, we have developed a very appealing social culture which, I personally think, will be remembered or even modelled upon by other societies. We know where we have come from, what we want and what we can bring or give. Over the years, we are very happy that we have freedom of speech, thoughts and freedom of press. In front of the law, everyone is equal. We would not say we are greedy that we want a fair and open election system to safeguard what we have earned before and will work hard for in the future.

The young people in the flash mob and the youths in the recent “Occupying Central” uprising, though portraying completely different energy, let me realize that Hong Kong as a city, has raised a next generation, full of good, brave, talented, civil and well brought up youths who are less bogged down by materialistic and monetary values. They have ideals, persevere, fight and chase for their rights and future. We, the seniors, should also respect in such a way that the world of Hong Kong has changed. Who hasn’t! The concept of value could not just stay in the same way as it had half a century ago. We should love and appreciate the young people of Hong Kong more, the same way we love Hong Kong as we have changed as a person and to grow old with it.

  1. The X, Y and Z generation are the pioneers of tomorrow. Actions need to be effective and with added value. For less motion creates less noise and as all generations move foward focus towards democracy and diplomacy needs a right of passage and not forced to simulation.
